Technology

The proposed architecture, in plain terms.

This describes how RoadSignal is being designed and what it would depend on. None of it is a shipped product, and the design will change as it is tested.

Proposed architecture

Six components the design depends on.

Each one exists to remove a specific way an event record could be weakened or misread later.

photo_camera

In-vehicle capture unit

A proposed dashcam-class unit with tamper-evident local storage, deliberately independent of whatever phone happens to be in the car.

storage

On-device event buffering

Short rolling buffers so an event can be preserved with its surrounding seconds, without streaming continuous footage anywhere.

psychology

AI-assisted screening

Candidate events are ranked with an explicit confidence score — a triage signal for a reviewer, never a determination of fault.

verified_user

Integrity and provenance layer

Hash-based integrity records, signed timestamps and device identity, so an event can be checked rather than taken on trust.

visibility_off

Privacy filtering

Detection of faces and number plates applied before any sharing, with retention limits set per use case rather than by default.

folder_shared

Case-handling interface

A proposed workspace for authorised reviewers where the evidence, its review status and its transfer history sit together in one record.

The conceptual data path

What happens between capture and a case file.

Four transitions, each with its own control point and its own reason to exist.

01

Capture

Footage is recorded and held locally in a short rolling buffer. Nothing leaves the vehicle at this stage.

02

Screen

Candidate events are flagged on the device with an explicit confidence level attached to each one.

03

Validate

A candidate is checked for integrity, time, location and context before any person spends time on it.

04

Share

Only reviewed, privacy-filtered evidence is released, and only to a recipient authorised to hold it.

Technical conversations

If you work on road safety data, we want your read on this.

We are looking for people who will tell us where the design is wrong before it is built, not after it is deployed.
